Onella Jack-Hill and Simone Morgan combined to great effect to lead Fire Services past Las Lomas Academy 42-34 and earned a seventh straight win from as many matches in the Premiership Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League (ASNL) in one of two rescheduled matches on Tuesday.
National defender Jack-Hill, playing in the goal-attack role, sank 25 goals of 32 attempts to lead Fire against a stubborn Las Lomas Academy which did well to stay within touch during the contest, 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and 17-15 at the half-time interval at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua.
Former national goal-shooter Morgan added 17 goals from 31 tries for the winners, who used a 15-9 third-quarter run to open a 32-24 lead.
The Las Lomas team enjoyed its best period of the match in the final quarter as it matched the league leaders goal-for-goal, 10-10, but by then the result was beyond doubt.
The Russell-family combination of Keon Russell and Racquel Russell tallied 27 goals from 42 attempts, and seven from 15 respectively in the loss.
With three matches left to complete its schedule when the league resumes on March 7 after the carnival break, Fire will look to secure the title with wins in two of its three matches versus Defence Force (4-2), Police (1-6) and main title rival, Police Youth Club (5-1), who the firewomen will meet in the final league encounter for both clubs for this season.
In the day's other match, Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) rallied for a 45-38 win over Police, thanks to Aquila Blugh's 32 goals from 44 attempts.
On Monday, Bermudez moved to within a point of being crowned champion of the Championship Division after improving its record to maximum 12 points and two matches left to play, six ahead of TSTT (3-2), which has three matches in hand.
Bermudez will go into its final two matches versus Defence Force (2-3) and Miscellaneous Laventille (0-5) needing only a drawn result to be ensured the title
