Mohammed cruises into semis at East Clubs Classified

Na­tion­al cham­pi­on Carlista Mo­hammed cruised in­to the semi­fi­nals in the Women's A Di­vi­sion of the East Clubs Clas­si­fied Ten­nis­Tour­na­ment af­ter a straight­for­ward vic­to­ry in the Sin­gles com­pe­ti­tion at the Trinidad Coun­try Club, Long Cir­cu­lar Road, Mar­aval.

On Sun­day in the fi­nal quar­ter­fi­nal match in the di­vi­sion, Mo­hammed eased to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jae­da-Lee Daniel-Joseph on court four to book a spot in the next round.

The oth­er semi­fi­nal­ists are El­la Car­ring­ton, Jor­dane Dook­ie and re­cent­ly crowned Catch Na­tion­al Ju­nior Girls' 18 and Un­der Sin­gles cham­pi­on Aal­isha Alex­is. She is al­so the na­tion­al ju­nior dou­bles cham­pi­on af­ter team­ing up with Cameron Wong.

Car­ring­ton ad­vanced af­ter eas­i­ly de­feat­ing Farah Chau­ti­lal, 6-1, 6-1. Dook­ie had more of a chal­lenge but man­aged to elim­i­nate Trevine Sel­l­i­er, 4-6, 7-5 (10/3) while Alex­is was test­ed by Zara Ghu­ran, but emerged with a 6-3, 7-6(2) vic­to­ry.

In the Men's A Di­vi­sion, Se­bas­t­ian Byng, Son­ny Williams, Saqiv Williams and Che Sanchez pro­gressed from the Round of 32 in yes­ter­day's ear­ly ses­sion.

On court one, Byng topped start­ed very fo­cussed and com­fort­ably won the first set with­out drop­ping a game, 6-0 against Farid Youssef. How­ev­er, Youssef re­bound­ed su­perbly to match his op­po­nent to take the sec­ond set 0-6 and lev­elled the match, which had to be de­cid­ed by a tiebreak­er and it was Byng emerg­ing the win­ner, 10/7.

Over on court three, Son­ny got some re­sis­tance from Daniel Youssef but held on for a  6-4, 7-5 vic­to­ry. Mean­while, on court four, Saqiv dropped the open­ing set against Ja­mal Alex­is, Boys' 18 and Un­der run­ner-up in the Catch Na­tion­al Ju­nior Cham­pi­onships, and ral­lied back to win the next set 6-3 be­fore claim­ing the match 10/8 in a tiebreak­er.

In the oth­er match on court five, Sanchez was chal­lenged from the first set but he did well to put away Zach­ery Byng, 7-5, 6-3.
