National champion Carlista Mohammed cruised into the semifinals in the Women's A Division of the East Clubs Classified TennisTournament after a straightforward victory in the Singles competition at the Trinidad Country Club, Long Circular Road, Maraval.
On Sunday in the final quarterfinal match in the division, Mohammed eased to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph on court four to book a spot in the next round.
The other semifinalists are Ella Carrington, Jordane Dookie and recently crowned Catch National Junior Girls' 18 and Under Singles champion Aalisha Alexis. She is also the national junior doubles champion after teaming up with Cameron Wong.
Carrington advanced after easily defeating Farah Chautilal, 6-1, 6-1. Dookie had more of a challenge but managed to eliminate Trevine Sellier, 4-6, 7-5 (10/3) while Alexis was tested by Zara Ghuran, but emerged with a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory.
In the Men's A Division, Sebastian Byng, Sonny Williams, Saqiv Williams and Che Sanchez progressed from the Round of 32 in yesterday's early session.
On court one, Byng topped started very focussed and comfortably won the first set without dropping a game, 6-0 against Farid Youssef. However, Youssef rebounded superbly to match his opponent to take the second set 0-6 and levelled the match, which had to be decided by a tiebreaker and it was Byng emerging the winner, 10/7.
Over on court three, Sonny got some resistance from Daniel Youssef but held on for a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Meanwhile, on court four, Saqiv dropped the opening set against Jamal Alexis, Boys' 18 and Under runner-up in the Catch National Junior Championships, and rallied back to win the next set 6-3 before claiming the match 10/8 in a tiebreaker.
In the other match on court five, Sanchez was challenged from the first set but he did well to put away Zachery Byng, 7-5, 6-3.
