Police are investigating a suspected kidnapping that occurred near the Freeport Flyover on Monday morning. The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Rajesh Maharaj.
Around 9.30 am on June 9, Maharaj, of Alligator Trace North, Munroe Road, Cunupia, was seated in the driver’s seat of a brown vehicle, with an 80-year-old passenger in the back seat. While parked in the vicinity of Mission Road, a black vehicle pulled alongside them.
Two men of African descent exited and confronted Maharaj, demanding he step out. Maharaj reportedly responded, “Tomorrow na, ah tell yuh tomorrow.”
The 80-year-old passenger was later dropped off near Highway Bar on Mission Road, but Maharaj and his vehicle have not been seen since.
Responding officers interviewed several people in the area and issued a broadcast alert. They also searched the vicinity of the Freeport Flyover, but neither Maharaj nor the vehicle were found.
The matter has been referred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Homicide Region III. Investigations are ongoing.
