While the current Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert remains in effect until later this afternoon, the Met Service is still advising the population on both islands to remain vigilant—especially those living in flood and landslide prone areas.

“Persons in flood and landslide prone areas are urged to remain alert, take precautions where necessary and monitor official updates throughout the day,” the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) urges in its latest advisory issued a short while ago.

“Motorists and residents in flood-prone areas avoid flooded areas and exercise caution. Secure loose outdoor objects,” it advised.

The advisory’s core message:

“Take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts.”

Met Service forecasters warn of a 60% chance for isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms to develop today, which they say increases:

“…the risk of street flooding and landslides/landslips, particularly in areas with saturated soils. At this time, major rivers are contained and below medium capacity, though levels may rise rapidly in the event of heavy rainfall.”

The Met Service notes that winds may become gusty in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms.

“These winds may further agitate sea conditions, displace loose outdoor items and even topple unstable trees,” it noted.

As this most recent adverse weather event continues to impact Trinidad, Tobago and their surrounding waters, everyone is urged to continue monitor official weather updates at www.metoffice.gov.tt
