Curepe Jamaat Youth team, Majid ul Laah, successfully defended their 2025 TML Youth (Under-21)League 50-Ball Cricket title sponsored by Mohammed’s Electrical and Atlantic Trading Co Ltd at the TML grounds EMR St Joseph on Friday (July 25).
Batting first, Warrenville Jamaat Youths could only manage 53 all out due to Curepe’s main destroyer Zameer Ali taking three wickets for just four runs. Curepe made light work of their target with national U-19 player Christian Lall’s undefeated 18, with a couple of sixes.
Later in the evening, TML Championship League defending champions ASJA Markaz Jamaat also successfully defended their title, sponsored by Arawak Chicken and Eniath’s Printing Co Ltd. Batting first, ASJA’s opening pair brothers of Arshad Khan with 32 runs and Aamir Khan with 18 runs posted 44 for the first wicket and went on to register a respectable 79 runs for five wickets.
At their turn at the crease, newly crowned “The 2025 Terrance Ali Spirit of the Tournament Award” winner, Kelly Jamaat, showed glimpses of their good 2025 season, but never really threatened the target. Zaheer Ali made a fighting 23 off 21 balls and the evergreen, energetic Yasir Mohammed made 10 runs off five balls. They eventually mustered 61 runs in their allotted 50 overs, ensuring powerhouse ASJA Markaz Jamaat won their seventh TML Cricket Championship title, obtaining trophies, gold medals, and $6,000 cash.
The TML Masters League (Over-40), sponsored by Eniath’s Printing Co Ltd, featured newcomers East 3, who played the entire 2025 season undefeated and easily outplayed arch rival and 2024 finalist East 1. Imtiaz Ali and Ziyad Ali, both with 21 runs, helped East 3 to a challenging 79 for 4. At their turn at the crease, East 1 could only muster 63 for 5 in their 50 balls despite an encouraging run-a-ball 23 runs by Ishmael Hosein.
In the TML Junior (U-14) League sponsored by SM Jaleel and Co Ltd, the final featured hosts TML Juniors against Curepe/Sangre Grande Juniors, a repeat of last year's finalists, where TML Juniors were crowned winners. This year, the Curepe/Sangre Grande Juniors were able to turn things around and become the new TML Junior champions. Batting first, Curepe/Sangre Grande Juniors made a hard-fought 67 for 5, which they successfully defended, restricting TML Juniors to 42 for 6 in their 50 balls.
Naim Khan, chairman of TML Cricket, told the media that “this year we had an extended season with a record 44 teams, where all winners in all four TML 50-Ball Cricket Leagues received either cash or worthy gift items from our respective sponsors. We sincerely thank all of our sponsors that made this season the largest in our 20-year history."
